Matthew Alan Moell, of Charlotte, N.C., was born in Columbus on Jan. 5, 1966, and passed away July 6, 2018, at age 52.
He was the son of Joseph and Betsy Moell. His father preceded him in death in 2007.
Matt is survived by his mother Betsy Moell of Urbana; two children, Nicholas Moell of Fairfield, Iowa, and Sophie Moell of Charlotte, N.C,; a brother, Chris (Becky) Moell of West Liberty; nephews and niece, Dusty Moell, Levi Moell and Lydia Moell of West Liberty; and special friend, Shannon Baker of Concord, N.C..
Matt grew up in Preble County and was a 1984 graduate of National Trail High School. He was blessed to have a career which he loved, and he enjoyed going to work every day for 30 years. He began loading bags with Piedmont Airlines in Dayton in 1986.
Piedmont later became US Air/Airways and finally American Airlines, where he worked for many years in the tower in ground operations, and he worked his way up the ranks to ground operations instructor, where he traveled nationally and internationally, teaching at airports around the world. He especially enjoyed Scotland.
Matt was a very friendly person and loved meeting new people, but kept in touch with many old friends and especially enjoyed Facebook. He also enjoyed NASCAR, The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Carolina Panthers, supporting the NRA and following his kids’ and nephews’ and niece’s many athletic activities through the years.
Matt’s humor and presence will be greatly missed.
Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 18, in the Walter & Lewis Funeral Home in Urbana, followed by a graveside service in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
