1-to-1 program a reality with Chromebook purchases
A Mary Rutan Foundation donation will fund a building project at Riverside Local Schools that has been discussed throughout this year to meet a need for athletic equipment storage.
School district officials accepted a $35,000 check from foundation representatives Tammy Allison and Nancy Knight at their Tuesday evening board of education meeting.
In January, Jason Bell, maintenance and transportation supervisor, first provided a presentation to the board regarding the proposed pole barn that would provide extra storage options for athletic equipment such as track and field hurdles, track pads and football equipment. The district currently has limited space to store these large items.
Treasurer Lucas Ratliff said this morning that when Riverside began its athletic training program relationship with Mary Rutan Hospital this spring, district officials learned more about the foundation and forwarded its athletic storage facility plans to the organization. They were thrilled to learn that the entire $35,000 initial project estimate would be covered by the foundation.
“The $35,000 donation will cover the majority of the project,” Mr. Ratliff said. “The district will have some other small costs associated with the building, including about $1,000 to put down concrete and then about $1,200 to put a rolling gate by the building.”
The storage building will be located near the track and football field. The goal is to have the facility completed by the start of the football season, which will complement other outdoor work this summer — resurfacing of track and the new scoreboard that is being installed after the former scoreboard sustained spring storm damage, the treasurer noted.
