Mary Jo Wallace passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, July 27, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 15, 1930, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Carl and Goldie (Burket) Hull.
Growing up in Lima with her sister, Jean, and after graduating from Lima Central High School, Mary Jo worked for City Loan and Savings in Lima.
While visiting Indian Lake with friends she met her future husband, James B. Wallace, who preceded her in death in 1993.
They were married on December 29, 1951, and soon thereafter settled into their first and only home together on Wolf Island, Indian Lake later to be joined on the island by their closest friends and neighbors Bill and Marjorie Reed.
There they lovingly raised 2 sons, Greg Wallace of Indian Lake and Jim Wallace of Cincinnati along with 4 daughters, Sharon (Dave) Corwin of Lewistown, Julie (Rick) Gillette of Lake Orion, Michigan, Susie (Randy) Taylor of Minster, and Deb (Tony) Ricci of Cincinnati. All of whom survive along with 14 Grandchildren and 27 precious Great Grandchildren. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her sister Jean Miller and favorite daughter-in-law Deb (Cooper) Wallace.
Once her children were grown, she joined her husband at the office as co-owner of Schuler Marina working alongside her sister, Jean, and other members of the family until retirement in 1994.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point where she was actively involved and volunteered for many of the church service organizations. She sang in the choir and taught at the school of religious education, conducted both First Communion and Confirmation classes and was a Eucharistic minister traveling to provide communion to shut-ins including the residents of Otterbein, Cridersville Senior Living Community where she herself would reside for a short time at the end of her life.
Mary Jo was an extraordinary, caring individual who was at her happiest when in the service of others.
