Mary Frances Smith, 91, of rural Bellefontaine passed away at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at her residence.
She was born in Bellefontaine on July 17, 1929, the only child of the late Francis Donald and Mary Irene (Clingerman) Longbrake. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Timothy J. Smith, in 2015.
She is survived by six children; William F. (Paula) Smith of Massillon, Neysa M. (Frank) Doudna of Albany, Timothy M. (Mary) Smith of Bellefontaine, Steven A. (Tina) Smith of Taylor Mills, KY, Matthew L. Smith of DeGraff, Anthony J. (Jill) Smith of Delaware, 14 grandchildren; Brian, Troy (Shiho), Dale (Jess), Andrew (Britney), Braden (Lindsey), Casey (Trisha), Timothy, Jr. (Jenny), Julia (Adam), Thomas, Jessica, Derek, Sean, Anastasia (Jeremy), and Tate, six great grandchildren; Greyson, Griffin, Colston, Marisa, Toshiki, Liam and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Bellefontaine High School and Miami University. After raising her children and managing the family farm, she worked as a secretary at the Logan County Chamber of Commerce before becoming the office manager for Logan Acres until her retirement. She belonged to both the St. Patrick and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Churches. With her husband, she enjoyed bridge club and the Logan County Art League. She was a member of several local women’s social clubs and was a supporter of the Holland Theatre and the Logan County Historical Society.
Father Shawn Landenwitch along with her grandson, Transitional Deacon Brian Smith, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 316 E. Patterson Ave., Bellefontaine. Visitation is Friday, Jan. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Bellefontaine.
