Mary Elizabeth Evilsizor, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Logan Acres Senior Community.
Born on March 29, 1921, in West Liberty, to the late Edward and Nellie Lapp Shumaker, she was the youngest of four and also was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul C. Evilsizor on Feb. 11, 1991; her second husband, Lewis Evilsizor, in February 2005; her brother, William Shumaker; two sisters, Juanita Shumaker Howard and Ruth Shumaker Miller; and a beloved granddaughter, Dee Anna Kinney Batton.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1939 and completed the Springfield City Hospital’s nursing program earning her registered nursing degree. She completed an art school course via mail, and graduated from Ohio Northern University with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She was the school nurse for Bellefontaine City Schools from 1960 through 1968. She was employed as a fifth-grade teacher and principal at Middleburg Elementary School, taught at East Liberty Elementary School and concluded her teaching career at West Mansfield Elementary School.
She retired from teaching, but remained active with her love of crafts. She joined the Country Crafters, participating in an annual show. She was active in the Bellefontaine United Methodist Church, where she taught and served as the supervisor of the primary Sunday School, was a member of the Aimwell Class serving as an officer and at times as the teacher, and remained active in the Fidelis Circle of King’s Daughter serving on several committees and also as an officer from 1953-2009. She often shared with others the trip she took to the Holy Land in 1991.
She enjoyed art activities such as painting classes, quilting and Christmas ornaments. She loved flowers and adored her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Scarlett (John) Kinney and Nance (Gayle) Bradds; grandsons, Troy (Christy) Kinney, Griffen (Dara) Bradds and Nathan (Sommer) Bradds and six great-grandchildren, Miranda Batton, Kyra Batton, Addison Bradds, Wyatt Magnon, Bella Bradds and Max Bradds; and her last remaining cousin, Arlene Bechtel.
Pastor Ed Beale officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine. Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Youth Summer Missions in care of First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine.
