Derrek Driscol, 30, at large, was arrested Thursday on multiple drug charges, warrants and failure to comply with a police officer after a 8:30 p.m. traffic stop and foot pursuit.
An officer on patrol spotted a car with extremely dark window tint and attempted to stop the car on Troy Road. Driscol continued on and drove east on Florence Avenue before pulling into a driveway in the 600 block.
He quickly exited the car and took off running northbound. The officer followed and the foot pursuit continued through yard in the area of Myrtle Avenue before Driscol was tackled into a thorn bush.
A napkin with a white pill was found in his clothing while multiple plastic baggies, hypodermic syringes, drug treatment drugs and a digital scale were found in the car.
Driscol was charged with possession of drugs, obstructing official business, possession of drug abuse instruments, possession of drug paraphernalia, a Montgomery County probation violation, a Logan County warrant for possession of methamphetamine, a parole violation and failure to comply.
He was lodged in jail.
Dog owner defies police over animal waste
Donald R. Scott, 28, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 5, was arrested Sunday after he defied instructions to pick up and properly dispose of his dog’s feces from a neighbor’s yard.
Erica M. Sales, 421 W. Brown Ave., provided the officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department surveillance footage showing Scott walking two dogs and the larger dog defecating in her yard. She can be heard telling Scott to clean up after his dog.
He refused.
An officer met with him and he admitted he intended for his dog to defecate in Sales’ yard. He also state he had no intention of cleaning up. When the officer started to get a ticket book to issue him citation, Scott gathered a light blue plastic bag with a dark blue leaf logo and walked to Sales’ yard.
The officer followed and twice told him the waste should be disposed of properly. He gathered up the feces and left.
The officer meanwhile met with Sales. As they were talking outside, the officer heard something hit the rear privacy fence. The officer found the freshly collected waste in a bag along with another older bag of waste. Both bags were similar to the one observed earlier by the officer.
Scott then walked by with his dogs. He claimed the waste was from the winter but the officer reports the feces was fresh.
Two other officers were called to the scene when Scott refused to put his dogs in his residence. Upon their arrival, he complied. He was taken into custody on the charges of persistent disorderly conduct and littering. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Belligerent customers face charges
Christopher A. Johnson, 47, of 117 S. Park St., was charged Saturday with public intoxication.
He was at Waffle House, 1133 N. Main St., around 3 a.m. and became belligerent with staff, cursing at them and allegedly throwing dishes at them.
He was asked to leave but refused.
Officers took him into custody on the intoxication charge and lodged him in jail. He was formally notified management banned him from the restaurant.
• Mary E. Walters, 47, of 629 Florence Ave., was charged Friday with disorderly conduct.
Staff at Walmart, 2281 S. Main St., reported she was upset with customer service after they refused to take a bottle of brake fluid back which had ordered online.
She allegedly cursed at employees and other customers before leaving the store. She was stopped while backing up her SUV at a high rate of speed in a parking lot aisle.
She was formally notified management banned her from the store.
Mother, son face charges for lying
A mother and her son were charged with falsification after they lied to officers about a minor traffic crash Friday in an attempt to protect the son.
Marcella R. Daft, 49, of 416 E. Sandusky Ave., originally told officers she was driving a car at 12:30 p.m. that was struck in the rear as it was pulling into her residence. She also claimed the other motorist drove off in an SUV without stopping.
The son, Larry Daft, 30, of the same address, concurred that his mother was driving at the time.
Another officer soon notified the investigating officer that he had observed a silver SUV stopped along the road in front of the Daft residence and there were two men talking outside the vehicles. The officer had noted the license plate on the SUV and ran a records check.
Saturday, officers met with Andrew Lattimer, 25, of Bellefontaine, who was driving the SUV. He told them he was eastbound behind the car when traveled left into the center turn lane before turning back to the right into the path of the SUV.
He stopped and talked with the men and one told him he was giving Lattimer a break by not reporting the crash. Lattimer provided officers access to text messages he sent his father regarding the incident.
When confronted during an interview at the police department, both the mother and son admitted to lying.
Larry Daft also was issued traffic citations for driving under suspension and failure to reinstate driving privileges.
Driver lodged on warrant
Melissa W. Hannah, 66, of West Liberty, was taken into custody on a Union County warrant for failure to appear. She was stopped around 3 p.m. after an officer on patrol learned via a records check that license displayed on the car was not valid.
She was stopped on Arnold Avenue east of Detroit Street.
She was issued citations for an expired operator’s license and fictitious registration.
Officers took her into custody on the warrant and handed her over to a Union County sheriff’s deputy.
Motorist faces OVI charge
Sarah S. Gepfrey, 29, of Sidney, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
An officer on patrol around 1:40 a.m. near Sandusky Avenue and Detroit Street observed a sport utility vehicle turnaround in the intersection of Detroit and Columbus Avenue to travel northbound on Detroit, which is southbound only in that area. A traffic stop was initiated after the motorist made a wide turn onto eastbound Sandusky and then another wide turn onto northbound Main Street, striking a curb.
Upon contact with Gepfrey, the officer noted her thick and slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. The officer reports her eyes were bloodshot and glossy; her face was flushed; her hair was disheveled and unkempt; and her makeup was smeared.
She was instructed to exit the SUV. She reportedly stumbled and was unsteady on her feet.
Field sobriety tests indicated she was impaired by alcohol. Her breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.154. She was released to a sober driver.
