Leonard Aleshire, 69, of Springfield, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident Saturday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were dispatched to the area of County Road 54 and State Route 235 about 7 p.m. in reference to a vehicle in the ditch.
When officers arrived, they observed a gray Mazda convertible in the ditch.
The driver was identified as Aleshire. He stated he was heading home and went off the right side of the road and down in the ditch.
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment. Aleshire stated that he had one beer a couple hours ago.
After being instructed to exit the vehicle, the defendant opened the door and officers noticed a beer can in the cup holder and other unopened beer cans on the passenger seat.
Officers observed that Aleshire was having a hard time standing and leaned against the vehicle. He stated he was not taking any tests and was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he failed a breath test. Aleshire also was cited for failure to control.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
