Victim treated at area hospital for injuries
WILLIAMS |
A Columbus man was charged with two felony counts of rape Friday after incidents that occurred in Russells Point involving a 3-year-old female victim, who is currently being treated at an area hospital.
Akeem Williams, 28, was taken into custody about 8 p.m. by officers of the Washington Township Police Department and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Washington Township officers first responded about 1:20 p.m. Friday to an address in Russells Point on a report of a sexual assault.
Officers learned that the child’s mother and grandmother had taken the girl to St. Rita’s Hospital that day, and then the 3-year-old was transferred to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Medical staff at the Dayton hospital described her injuries as being consistent with “sexual assault by bodily force.” Logan County Children’s Services and law enforcement were contacted after these findings.
Officers spoke with the child’s family members, and identified Mr. Williams as the suspect.
During their investigation, officers learned that two sexual assault incidents allegedly had occurred, one Nov. 4 at a park in Russells Point, and one at a Russells Point home Nov. 6.
Officers were informed that the defendant had been at his brother’s residence in Bellefontaine. With the assistance of Bellefontaine Police Department officers, they responded to his brother’s address, but did not find the suspect there.
Mr. Williams was located later that day in Sidney and was apprehended by officers of the Sidney Police Department. He was taken into custody by the Washington Township officers and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
