Ralph R. Rosenberger, 65, of 12094 Shannon Drive, Lakeview, was charged with menacing and criminal damaging related to an incident Friday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 11:30 p.m. of a hit-skip crash in the area of State Route 235 and U.S. Route 33 involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle.
Dispatchers said both subjects, Rosenberger and Donald Buswell of Lewistown, had called the sheriff’s office to report the incident.
Deputies responded to the crash scene and to Buswell’s residence to speak with him there.
Buswell told deputies that he had been traveling southbound along S.R. 235 and a motorcyclist had been speeding up, slowing down and bouncing between lines of the lanes of travel.
Buswell reportedly stopped at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 33, and said the male operator of the motorcycle pulled up beside him. The motorcyclist then allegedly began yelling at him and punching the side of his vehicle.
While punching at his vehicle, Buswell said the motorcyclist lost his balance and the motorcycle fell over. Buswell said he left the scene to avoid confrontation and called the sheriff’s office.
Deputies observed several dents in the right rear quarter of Buswell’s vehicle.
At the scene, deputies spoke with Rosenberger, who said the other driver had been “recklessly passing cars” and he had stopped at the red light to confront the other driver. He said the other driver abruptly turned his steering wheel, which caused Rosenberger to lose his balance.
Deputies said Rosenberger sustained superficial injuries in the incident. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Driver transported from T.R. 187 crash
Ronald L. Griffith, 44, of Urbana, was transported by Macochee EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a crash Sunday evening.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound 2005 Ford Mustang about 7:50 p.m. in the 4500 block of Township Road 187. His vehicle went off the left side of the road, driving along a ditch for approximately 20 yards and then striking a utility pole.
Deputies said alcohol impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash and investigation continues. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene. Griffith was cited for failure to control and he was wearing a seat belt.
