A punishing ground game helped Indian Lake’s football team put a demonstrative stamp on the season Friday as the Lakers rolled past visiting Urbana 49-13 in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division game.
The Lakers piled up 509 yards of total offense, including 404 rushing yards.
The one-two punch of Clay Jacobs and Elijah Slagle carried the load for the Lakers on Friday. Jacobs had 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, while Slagle tallied 199 rushing yards and three TDs on 17 carries.
Indian Lake finished the season on a three-game winning streak for a final record of 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the CBC Mad River division. The Hillclimbers end the fall winless at 0-10, 0-5.
Jacobs had a hand in all of Indian Lake’s scoring in the first half. He had touchdown runs in the first quarter of 61 and 23 yards for a 14-0 lead.
Jacobs added an 18-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it 21-0.
Urbana got on the scoreboard before halftime when Logan Johnson threw a 10-yard TD pass to Rayvon Rogan with 23 seconds left in the quarter. That left the Lakers on top 21-7 at the break.
Slagle scored his first touchdown in the third quarter on a 9-yard run. That put Indian Lake up 28-7 with 4:30 left to play in the period.
The Hillclimbers responded with a 5-yard touchdown run by Trevor Stewart to make the score 28-13 with 2:10 left on the third-quarter clock.
Indian Lake’s special teams scored in the third quarter when Dolan Miller took a kickoff back 81 yards for a touchdown. That pushed the Lakers out to a 35-13 advantage at the 1:56 mark.
Slagle piled on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. He tallied TD runs of 3 and 9 yards.
Jacobs completed six passes for 105 yards. Kaleb Hurley chipped in with 45 receiving yards on two catches.
