KENTON — Kenton Police Chief Dennis Musser sustained minor injuries when a high-speed pursuit involving a Lima man and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol ended in a collision with his patrol car Tuesday afternoon, according to Kenton-Times reports.
The suspect, Nicholas E. Meeker, 28, of Lima, reportedly was operating an eastbound vehicle on State Route 309 attempting to flee troopers in a chase that started in Allen County. The chase began after he reportedly was observed traveling over the speed limit and failed to pull over for a trooper attempting to make a traffic stop.
After the pursuit entered Hardin County, Mr. Meeker attempted to pass a semi about three miles west of Kenton and lost control of his vehicle and struck the front end of Chief Musser’s patrol car.
The police chief, who was responding to a call for assistance with the chase, was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. The suspect also sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Charges pending against Mr. Meeker include operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless operation, possession of drug instruments of abuse, driving under suspension, failure to comply with an officer and resisting arrest.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the chase and attempted to deploy stop sticks, but they were not effective, according to reports.
