BRANDT FIELDS |
A corrections officer who is employed by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a crash early Wednesday morning on State Route 540.
Brandt Fields, 25, of Bellefontaine, who is not a commissioned deputy but recently had marked one year as a corrections officer, also was cited for failure to control related to the non-injury crash.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound car on S.R. 540 at County Road 5 about 3:10 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the series of S-curves in the roadway. He reportedly went off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole and a guide wire.
A passenger in his vehicle, Miriam Reames, 24, of Zanesfield, also was not injured. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts, and damage was moderate to the vehicle.
Deputies observed that Mr. Fields showed signs of intoxication, and he reportedly failed field sobriety tests. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to take a blood alcohol content test. He was released from the jail on a recognizance bond and given a court date of Monday.
Logan County Sheriff Andrew J. Smith said this morning that the disciplinary process for Mr. Fields will commence at the conclusion of the judicial process. The appropriate union representatives also have been notified and will move forward after the case has been completed.
