Jerry L. Porter, born in Mitchell, S.D., in 1933 to Hazel and RW “Pete” Porter, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 27, 2017.
Settling in Bellefontaine, Jerry attended elementary and high school where he played football, basketball and track, and studied carpentry. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict.
Jerry worked construction all his life, retiring after more than 20 years with Thomas and Marker. He was a lifetime member of NRA and In Fisherman. He enjoyed football, cars, guns and fishing. I never had to call a repairman and I will miss him for the rest of my days.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene and Joe, and brother-in-law Ben Markins. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laraine Porter; sons, John (Becky), Terry (Susan) of Bellefontaine, and Marc (Kelly) Jennings; sister, Pam Patterson of Florida; brother-in-law, Philip (Kathy) Markins and sisters-in-law, Celeste Davis and Barb Markins; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be planned for the spring. Special thanks to Mt. Carmel Hospice for their care and kindness.
Contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215. Arrangements in the care of Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes.
