West Liberty-Salem boys claim outright OHC championship

In an almost mirror result, West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team defeated host Southeastern 61-53 on Friday to claim the outright Ohio Heritage Conference championship.
The Tigers had defeated the Trojans in a nearly identical score of 63-53 earlier this season. The win makes WL-Salem perfect in league play this season at 14-0 and ends the regular season at 19-3 overall.
WL-Salem claimed a share of the OHC crown a week ago in a win over Mechanicsburg, but the win over Southeastern was icing on the cake for the Tigers. The last time the program won an OHC championship was 2006.
WL-Salem jumped in the driver’s seat early and led 18-13 after the first quarter. Southeastern outscored the Tigers 16-10 in the second quarter. That allowed the Trojans to take a 29-28 lead at halftime.
The Tigers pulled back in front in the third quarter with a 17-8 run, which boosted them to a 45-37 advantage. The Trojans and Tigers were even in the fourth quarter at 16-16 and that allowed WL-Salem to wrap up the outright league crown.
Kannon Stillings led the Tigers with 15 points, Ross Kelley had 14 points, Austin Miller posted 12 points and Tyler Louden recorded 11 points.
Lakers coast past Falcons
Indian Lake’s boys basketball team pulled away from host Graham in the fourth quarter to secure a 47-39 win in its final Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division contest.
The Lakers have now won seven straight and are 14-7 overall and finish second in the Mad River division at 8-2. The Falcons drop to 5-15, 3-9.
Indian Lake held a 17-14 lead after the opening quarter. Graham kept pace in the second quarter with a 9-9 effort, but still trailed 26-23 at halftime.
The Lakers clipped the Falcons 9-8 in the third quarter to maintain a 35-31 advantage. They gained some breathing room in the fourth quarter with a 12-8 run to lock up the win.
Beau Hefner fueled the Lakers’ win with 19 points, Alex Jacobs had eight points and Collin Coburn added seven points.
Tecumseh rallies late to down Bellefontaine

Bellefonatine’s boys basketball team saw a four-point lead diminish as host Tecumseh rallied in the fourth quarter for a 58-51 win Friday in Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail action.
The Chieftains led 42-38 entering the final quarter, but the Arrows’ offense surged in the final period with a 20-9 run.
Tecumseh had already locked up the outright CBC Kenton Trail championship prior to Friday’s game and the regular season 19-3 and 9-1 in the division.
Bellefontaine slides to 8-12 overall and finishes league play at 3-7.
A key component of Friday’s game was the Chiefs struggled to contain two of the league’s top three scorers in the Arrows’ Malik and Darius Quisenberry.
The duo combined for 33 points in a 59-56 win over BHS earlier this season. On Friday, though, the pair posted a combined 52 points.
Bellefontaine came out in the first quarter and grabbed a 15-11 lead. The Chiefs continued to play strong and edged the Arrows 12-11 in the second quarter for a 27-22 halftime advantage.
Tecumseh began to battle back in the third quarter with a 16-15 effort, but still trailed 42-38 to BHS.
The Quisenberry brothers took control of the game in the fourth quarter and accounted for all 20 of the Arrows’ points in a 20-9 run that allowed Tecumseh to pull away for the win.
Jacob Rogan paced the Chieftains with 16 points, while Isaiah Miller and Hayden Nease each had 10 points.
Warriors complete sweep of Raiders
Benjamin Logan’s boys basketball team put up a battle Friday, but host Northwestern used a strong fourth-quarter effort to grab a 54-49 win in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division play.
The Warriors snap a three-game losing skid and improve to 8-12 overall and 6-4 in the Mad River division. The Raiders drop their fifth straight and are 6-15, 2-8.
Ben Logan worked its way to a 13-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Raiders edged the Warriors 13-10 in the second quarter to grab a 26-21 advantage at the break.
Northwestern began to rally in the third quarter with a 17-12 run, which tied the game 38-38. The Warriors used a 16-11 effort in the final period to gain the lead and escape with the win.
Grant Ricketts sparked the Raiders with 23 points with Nolan Robson and Austin VanBuskirk each tallying seven points.
Cardinals use second half surge to zap Indians
Triad’s boys basketball team saw its offense click in the second half to help put away host Cedarville in a 66-53 Ohio Heritage Conference victory.
The Cardinals move their record to 16-6 overall and finish 10-5 in the OHC standings. The Indians are now 9-12, 4-10.
Both teams were even after the opening quarter at 14-14. Triad outscored Cedarville 19-15 in the second quarter to carry a 33-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
A big third quarter saw the Cardinals go on a 16-9 run, which boosted them to a 49-38 lead. Triad sealed the win with a 17-14 effort in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Boyd poured in a game high 25 points to power the Cardinals on offense, while Colby Watson tallied 15 points, Briley Harlan had 10 points and Alec Ober added nine points.
