Budget carryovers continue to supplement stagnant income for the Logan County Health District, but it cannot continue indefinitely.
Health Commissioner Dr. Boyd Hoddinott said, “Our funding is terrible. We’re not able to do what we’re supposed to do. “We’re using up what reserves we have but that can’t continue indefinitely.”
Administrator Lisa Brown presented board members with a budget for 2018. Projected revenues are $1.56 million with expenditures of $1.645 million across all funds.
The district’s general fund should start the year with $400,000 in carryover funds and the plan is to use $36,000 of it in 2018, Brown said.
Frugal spending has kept the reserves at a level that cover four months of operations if a funding crisis hit the department, she said, and that is well within public office budget recommendations.
Dr. Hoddinott said fund constraints have cost the district 20 employees and hampered education efforts.
The district employs 19 people.
