Harold E. Smart Jr., 65, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Feb. 6, 1952, in Xenia, a son of the late Harold Sr. and Katherine Cline Smart. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Smart.
On Nov. 26, 1971, in West Milton, he married DayeAnn Knight, and she survives along with their two daughters, Danielle N. Smart and Kathleen M. (Lucas S. Broshears) Smart, both of Columbus; two granddaughters, Angela and Alison; two brothers, William (Marlecia) Smart of North Carolina and Richard (Theresa) Smart of Tipp City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harold worked for Honda of America for 34 years before retiring in 2014 from the paint department. He was a founding member of the Logan County Handgun Association and was an active participant in monthly gun competitions for more than 30 years.
He was a passionate gun enthusiast and a member of both IHMSA and the NRA. He was an avid movie watcher, enjoying anything with cowboys, explosions or aliens.
Throughout their 45-year marriage, Harold was a loving husband who never forgot an anniversary. He was an amazing father and extraordinary grandfather who always had time to spend, stories to tell and hugs to give. Anyone who was lucky enough to call him “friend” knew he was a friend for life.
Pastor H. Kearns officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Bellefontaine, where visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial is in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
