The Indian Lake High School Students Against Destructive Decisions club members are offering kind words to their fellow students on the heels of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September and during Depression Education and Awareness Month in October.
SADD members recently spent their Laker Time placing more than 450 handwritten notes and messages of encouragement on every single student locker at ILHS.
ILHS SADD president Cheyenne Hill said the purpose of the effort is to remind students that everyone matters.
“Hopefully, this gets people talking again about mental health and lets everyone know that it’s OK not to be OK. We want to make people smile and help them have a good day.”
Club members also recently handed out “Don’t Give Up” and “Text 4hope 741741” bracelets.
ILHS SADD adviser Deb Metzger said the group received donated materials from the local Don’t Give Up organization.
ILHS SADD will facilitate Red Ribbon Week across the district at the end of October. They are also planning their annual Blood Drive for Nov. 6.
