Florence E. McGuire, 94, of Urbana, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully entered Heaven on Thursday, June 2, 2016.
She was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Kingscreek where she spent her childhood. She attended Salem School in Kingscreek where she met and fell in love with her husband of 77 years and 7 months, Richard McGuire.
She was a member of several United Methodist churches throughout Champaign County, but most of the time, the one in Kingscreek.
She spent her life raising her family and working on the farm. Her passion was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Kingscreek UMC Women, the Champaign County Homemaker’s Club and the Highland County Homemaker’s Club in Florida. She enjoyed cake decorating, attending and participating in style shows, traveling to Florida every winter with her husband, watching sunrises and sunsets in Florida, collecting Heisey dishes and postcards, reading newspapers and looking through old pictures.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt, and will be sadly missed. As our hearts ache for the physical loss of her, we find solace knowing that she is now with God. She is at peace. And for that, we are grateful.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Carey “C.C.” and Essie Sceva Powell; her sons, David and Dwight McGuire; and her great-great-granddaughter, Shelby Underwood.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “R.C.” McGuire; her daughters-in-law, Linda McGuire and Wilma Jean McGuire; her children, Nicholas Dwain (Nancy) McGuire of West Liberty and Sheila Dianne (Terry) Evilsizor of Urbana; her grandchildren, Dawn (Kyle) Hodson, Debbie McGuire-Kauffman (John Lyons), Darcy “Little Flo” (Tom) Olinger, David (Tami) McGuire II, Molly (Bob) McGuire-Thomas, Marc (Michelle) McGuire, Anicia (Rob) Smith, Michael (Tonya) McGuire, Peter (Melinda) McGuire, Nichole (John) Spencer, Christy (Josh) Asterino, Thomas (Kylie) McGuire, Mamie (fiancé Daryl Hicks) McGuire, Molly Jill McGuire and Matthew Hendershot; her 27 great-grandchildren and expecting another in July; her 11 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine Tullis and Joyce McGuire; as well as several nieces and nephews.
