Roy Edgar Leasure Jr., 74, of Huntsville, passed away at 10:47 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at his residence.
He was born May 1, 1942, in Quincy, a son of the late Roy and Mildred Burton Leasure. On July 17, 1965, he married Brenda K. Fansler and they were married for 50 years.
She survives along with their two children, Todd (Tara) Leasure of Sandy Springs, Ga., and Megan (Jason) Lindholm of New Albany. There are two grandsons that complete his family, Rory and Wyatt Lindholm.
Roy found that the saddest thing about being ill was not being able to do things and teach the boys. The grandsons referred to him as Grandpa Boy.
Roy also had three siblings, Roger (Peg) Leasure of West Liberty, Diantha (Fred) Colwell of DeBarry, Fla., and Cheryl (Gabe) Segura of Costa Rica.
He graduated with an accounting degree from The Ohio State University where he played on the freshman football team under Woody Hayes. A former U.S. Marine, he was a member of the National Sporting Clays Association and Ducks Unlimited.
He first worked for a Big 8 accounting firm in Dayton. Later he owned his own CPA business in Indian Lake and then worked at Holloway Sportswear as president. Upon retirement from Holloway Sportswear, his gift to himself was a hunting trip to Africa.
There was a family farm in DeGraff with 211 acres in which Roy and his dog, Hobbs frequently visited taking long walks. Many hours were spent walking the plowed fields with Bob Maier and Roy’s son, Todd searching for arrowheads. They all have quite the collection.
Roy was an outdoorsman and he loved nature. He enjoyed sporting clays shoots. In 1994, he was the top shooter in Ohio. He also loved hunting, fishing and boating. For years he and his family went to Catawba Island, Lake Erie, every weekend to enjoy these sports. Recently Roy and Brenda spent winters at Long Boat Key, Fla., after being encouraged by Wayne and Sue Kimmel. They really looked forward to times spent there with friends.
