Club members’ road trip includes city

Rick Lederman didn’t get nervous when a group of driver’s education teenagers approached his 2016 Ferrari California T as it sat parked Tuesday in downtown Bellefontaine.
Instead, he used it as an opportunity to share his passion for the Italian sports cars.
“He does this all the time,” his wife, Barb, said. “He drives his Ferraris year round. He’s crazy about them and loves doing this.
“It’s a way for him to reach out to kids and get them thinking about their life choices.”
The Swanton, Ohio, software developer encourages children and teenagers to limit their time on social media. In his mind, they should live life and stay curious about their world around them.
Tuesday, in the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Opera Street, he opened the doors to his $200,000 convertible and invited Katie Thompson of Zanesfield to sit behind the wheel and Gaven Anderson of DeGraff to take the passenger seat.
Once seated, Mr. Lederman instructed Katie to fire up the 560-horsepower turbocharged V-8 and then showed her which buttons to push to close and open the hardtop convertible.
All the while, about two dozen Ohio Driving School classmates looked on.
