District maintains fine standing with Ohio auditors
A regular audit of the Indian Lake EMS 2014-2015 financial reports by the state of Ohio is ongoing as concern emerges from local officials about the organization and thoroughness of bookkeeping maintained by the district.
Indian Lake EMS currently maintains well over $400,000 on hand, and is in fine financial standing with the Ohio Auditor’s Office, said Mike Botkin, a chief auditor for the state of Ohio Auditor’s Office for the west region, which includes Logan County.
Still, he said material weaknesses cited within audit reports are generally expected to be corrected from one audit cycle to the next.
Mr. Botkin pointed out the Indian Lake EMS district is not in any sort of formal fiscal watch or alert by the state of Ohio. He would not comment on the ongoing regularly scheduled audit cycle, but said that an audit report with similar findings from those of prior years probably would not trigger any “fiscal watch” either.
However, since ground was broken and construction began on a new EMS station directly across the street at the corner of Oak and Stephenson streets without first having secured funding for the project, local public officials are increasingly concerned about a lack of organization within the district’s bookkeeping protocols.
