Robert Barry, 54, of Zanesville, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for leaving the scene of a crash and failure to control following an incident Monday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 8:15 p.m. of an erratic driver in the area of state routes 117 and 273.
The caller reportedly was following in a vehicle behind the suspect’s car, and reported that on a sweeping curve on S.R. 273, the driver struck a mailbox at 5527 S.R. 273 and drove through the yard at that location.
The suspect vehicle then went back onto the road, and this time headed westbound back toward S.R. 117. The driver then proceeded southbound on S.R. 117, and deputies initiated a traffic stop in the area of County Road 96.
The driver, Mr. Barry, showed signs of intoxication, but he refused to take a field sobriety test. At the Logan County Jail, he tested 0.264 blood alcohol content level.
The defendant also received a summons for an open container in a motor vehicle. He was released to a sober person.
