Eugene Schmerge, 84, of Bellefontaine, was transported by private vehicle to Mary Rutan Hospital for minor injuries sustained in a crash about 7:55 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound vehicle on State Route 540 near County Road 25 when he drove off the right side of the road and struck a sign post.
Deputies said winter weather conditions were a factor in the crash, and no citations have yet been issued. Damage was disabling to the vehicle.
• Deputies also are investigating a report of a hit-skip crash at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on State Route 720 near Township Road 239.
The driver of an eastbound vehicle reportedly went off the left side of the road and then struck a utility pole. The driver was not at the scene when deputies arrived, but had left the vehicle, which sustained heavy damage.
