Zachary K. Patch, 23, of 111 Maple St., Belle Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and received summonses for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in the village of Belle Center about 8:10 p.m. observed his vehicle in the Richland Township Park after hours and stopped to check on the vehicle. As the patrol vehicle approached the suspect vehicle, an odor of burnt marijuana was observed.
Deputies then followed the vehicle onto Elizabeth Street, and continued to smell the odor of burnt marijuana, along with smoke coming from the windows of the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, and upon contact with the driver, Patch, deputies observed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
The defendant eventually admitted to smoking marijuana, and handed deputies a marijuana pipe.
A passenger in the vehicle, who said he had not smoked marijuana, was released from the scene.
Field sobriety tests were conducted. He was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a urine test, with test results pending. He was released to a sober party.
