Shane M. Smith, 34, of Canal Winchester, was charged with having physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident early this morning.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department responded about 3 a.m. to a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and U.S. Route 33.
A complaint was reported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office when a caller stated she was nearly struck by the suspect vehicle near the Village Pantry, 209 State Route 708.
The caller provided a description of the vehicle, which was eventually located near Point Village Apartments, 400 Lincoln Blvd. Officers said the driver, Smith, was visibly intoxicated and had open containers of alcohol in his vehicle.
The defendant refused to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested. Once at the Logan County Jail, he was asked to take a breath test and provided a 0.159 blood alcohol content sample.
He was also issued a citation for open container and was released to a sober party.
He also has 2017 OVI conviction.
