A contentious rezoning proposal will have a public hearing April 12 before the Bellefontaine City Council.
City Law Director Josh Stolly told council members the Bellefontaine Planning Commission notified the city it had recommended rezoning 15 acres of land between Heatherhill and Greenridge drives south of Reservoir Road from R-1 (single-family) to R-3-C (condominium).
Council has to give at least 30 days’ notice of the hearing and Mr. Stolly said notice would be published in the next five days.
Jeremy and Erin LeVan, acting as agents for property owner Steve A. Cummings of Marysville, filed for the rezoning request so they can develop Allen Woods, a condominium complex of about 50 single-family units.
Neighbors fear the development will lower property values in the area, increase traffic through the neighborhoods, change the complexion of the residential community or the project could change hands and be developed in a different manner.
The development’s main entrance will run along the east property line of Robert and Terri Williams, who live at 1331 County Road 10.
Mr. Williams said today property owners around the proposed development are organizing and plan to hire an attorney to fight the rezoning.
