Officers and detectives of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating the Monday death of a two-year-old girl who reportedly sustained burns to her back while in a shower.
Emergency personnel responded around 1:10 p.m. to 729 Euclid St. and found Jemma Fogle unresponsive. Bellefontaine squad personnel attempted cardio pulmonary resuscitation efforts but the child succumbed to her injuries, police report.
Initial police reports indicate Jemma was placed in a shower after soiling herself and Jemma turned up the hot water temperature while her father’s girlfriend tended to changing the diaper of another child around 9:55 p.m. Sunday. The father’s girlfriend was reportedly watching his four children — all under the age of 3 — at the time of the incident.
Jemma’s father arrived home from work around 2:30 a.m. and checked on the girl. He told officers the child’s back was red and irritated but she was not crying nor in obvious distress.
In the morning, a family friend provided the family with an over the counter burn gel and it was applied to the girl’s back. Jemma soon began to have seizures and the couple called for emergency assistance.
