Richard E. Lear, a 1989 Bellefontaine High School graduate, had stellar performances in a pair of powerlifting meets this summer.
Now a resident of Monroe, Lear competed in the Lexen Dog Day Revolution Syndicate Meet on Aug. 13 in the 275-pound Professional Master age-45-49 single-play division. He set the single world record and Ohio State region record for the squat (600 pounds) and dead lift (525 pounds). He also had a bench press of 515 pounds for a new region record. He finished with a total weight of 1,640 pounds.
In June, he competed in the Ohio Police and Fire Games, where he set several state records. Those included the bench press (515 pounds), dead lift (555 pounds), strict curl (155 pounds) and total weight (1,595). He also squatted 525 pounds.
Lear works as a liquor compliance officer for the state of Ohio.
