Bellefontaine’s Samantha McLaughlin gave an impressive performance during the Division I district girls golf tournament Tuesday at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati.
The Chieftain junior shot an 86 and finished just five strokes from earning an individual state berth.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament next week in Columbus.
McLaughlin carded a 45 on the front and finished with a 41 on the back for her 86 total.
That tied her for 24th overall out of 71 golfers.
“I was very proud of Samantha for not giving up after shooting a 45 on the front nine,” said BHS head coach Darin Vermillion. “I told her to keep grinding away and finish strong.
You never know what the score will get out (to state). She finished strong down the stretch.”
