Carl “Burns” Wren, 79, of St. Marys and formerly of Shelby County, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born in Bloomfield Twp., Ohio, on Feb. 9, 1939, to the late Orville and Mary Burkett Wren.
On Nov. 16, 1985, he married Mary Lou (Deubner) and she preceded him in death June 29, He is also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wren and a stepson, David Hatfield.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Lisa) Wren of Perry and Brad (Bev) Wren of Jackson Center, four stepchildren; Shelley (Roy) Moore, Marla Presser, Cindy (John) Kalivoda and Debora Hatfield; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, a brother, Gerald Wren; and special friends, Charlotte Ricard and Don Rowe.
Burns graduated from Lewistown School and later Tri-State University. He worked 40 years for EMI Corporation, retiring in 2005 as a partner where he held the position of general manager and vice president. He was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys. A founding member of the Jackson Center Growth Association, he served on Jackson Center Village Council and also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Antioch Shriners and the Sidney Area Emmaus Community. He also served on countless boards and committees through the years. He loved traveling, woodworking, Cincinnati Reds baseball, boating, gardening, volunteering for just about anything, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Pastor Heth Corl officiates a funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Jackson Center United Methodist Church, 202 E. Pike St., Jackson Center, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, and an hour prior to the service. Burial is in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
