Nichols on Friday saw his Cardinals dominate Cuyahoga Heights 6-0 behind a one-hitter from junior Shane Ford in a Division IV state semifinal at Huntington Park.
Triad (26-7) plays defending champion Newark Catholic (23-9) at 7 p.m. tonight in the state championship game.
It will be a rematch of the 2004 state title game in which the Cardinals fell 3-1.
“I can’t explain this,” said Nichols with a smile. “Everything is working right now. In six tournament games, we have scored 42 runs and given up one. That is crazy. I hope we can keep it at one.”
