The Bellefontaine Police Department applied for, and was awarded, grant funds to offer five paid internships at the agency.
Applications are now available at the department’s website, or in the lobby upon request. Applications are due by 3 p.m. March 4 to the police department, 135 N. Detroit St.
Each paid intern will fulfill duties and tasks for the police department for 90 days, working primarily a Monday through Friday schedule, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends off.
Additional opportunities will become available as scheduling permits. During this time, each intern will learn about policing, learn about daily operations of the police department, interact with the community and work alongside trained professionals.
Current students who are at least 18 years of age are eligible (high school or college), as well as an adult considering policing as a career path.
“This is a great opportunity to learn and explore what law enforcement can provide,” BPD officials said. “In addition, successful applicants will be tasked with duties as directed by police supervision and administration.”
Each awarded intern will be hired as a city employee, compensated up to $2,500 total in biweekly pay periods.
Therefore, applicable rules and policies of the City of Bellefontaine will apply. Additional rules and policies of the Bellefontaine Police Department will also apply during each internship.
