The Raider quiz bowl team tested their knowledge on a national stage over the weekend with the highest finish of any Benjamin Logan High School quiz bowl team in school history.
Placing eighth (of 77) in their division, the Benjamin Logan team earned a trophy at the at the 2023 Small School National Championship Tournament at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago in Rosemont, Ill. This is Benjamin Logan’s sixth trip to the Small School National Championship Tournament. Their previous best finish was 12th out of 96 in 2017.
Individual team members also received medals. Among 421 competitors, BLHS senior George Ras-D Ahnutae ranked 10th and fellow senior Isaac Napier ranked 40th
Also competing for Benjamin Logan were freshman Livi Achor, sophomores Matthew Cox and Brookelynn Oliphant and senior Evan Wall.
Schools qualify to send teams to the Small School National Championship Tournament through their performance at tournaments using NAQT questions throughout the year.
The Raiders competed in double-elimination playoffs on Sunday falling 400-175 in Round 19 to another Ohio team, Garfield (Garrettsville).
While the team is losing some powerhouse seniors, they have talented freshmen and sophomores waiting in the wings. Quiz bowl is open to any high school student interested in joining, and the team practices once or twice a week.
The team is coached by Michael Kettler, who teaches CCP Chemistry/AP Chemistry and physics. He advises the quiz bowl and gaming club.
