NEW CARLISLE — Even when his team was leading big against Eaton in the second half Saturday, Ben Logan coach Donnie Sosby was unable to relax until the final seconds ticked away.

“We had a 16-point lead against Shawnee last year (in the sectional tournament), and we ended up losing,” said Sosby. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t have the same thing happen today.”
The Raiders refused to let the Eagles back into the game as they rolled to a 66-50 victory in a Division II girls sectional contest at Tecumseh High School.
Ben Logan also captured its first 20-win season in program history. The Raiders, now 20-3, play Trotwood-Madison in a Division II sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Tecumseh.
“Getting 20 wins was one of our goals before the season,” said Sosby. “It is a nice reward for the girls and all the hard work they have put in this season. The wins record had stood since the early 90s, so it is something the girls can be very proud of.”
Sophomore standout Nikki Current helped Ben Logan take control early against the Eagles.
Current scored 13 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter as the Raiders jumped out to a 20-12 lead.
The Raiders continued to dominate the action in the second period, outscoring Eaton 17-8 to lead by 17 (37-20) at halftime.
Ben Logan’s lead was 16 (46-30) at the end of the third period and the Raiders stayed in control in the final stanza to wrap up the win.
“I thought we played well in stretches,” said Sosby. “We had some lapses that we have to clean up, but I thought it was a pretty good effort. It was definitely good to get a win under our belts.”
The Raiders had a lot of balance offensively. Natalie Drumm scored 13 points, Taylor Coy had nine points, Hayley Boysel scored eight and Coreen Crosby chipped in seven points.
Julia Titus led the Eagles (12-11) with 17 points.
“Titus is a good player,” said Sosby. “She still scored 17, but we did a good job of making her work for her points.”
