Triad’s boys basketball team used the strength of a huge first quarter to bounce visiting Lehman Catholic 55-43 in a non-league game Monday.
The Cardinals finish the regular season 16-6, while the Cavaliers drop to 4-18.
Triad had no trouble getting its offense to click early as it shot out to a 24-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Cavaliers outscored the Cardinals 12-6 in the second quarter, but Triad still led by 10 points (30-20) at halftime.
Lehman chipped away at the Triad lead in the second half, but the Cardinals were able to fight off the threats to get the win.
Triad led 39-35 at the end of the third quarter and then outscored the vistors 16-8 in the final period.
Hadley LeVan fueled the Cardinals’ victory with 19 points. He knocked down five three-pointers on the night.
Ryan Boyd also turned in another strong outing with 17 points for Triad, while Colby Watson added 11 points to aid the victory.
Triad faces Riverside in the opening round of the sectional tournament on Saturday at Piqua High School.The game begins at 5:30 p.m.
