West Liberty-Salem’s softball team continued its trend of high-scoring first innings Friday in beating Middletown Madison 8-3 for the Division III district championship.

The Tigers, who scored six runs in the first inning of Monday’s 9-5 sectional final win over Milton-Union, put four runs on the scoreboard in the opening inning of Friday’s game.
That set the tone for a 17-hit outing against the Mohawks in a contest played at Eaton High School.
“I’m proud of how the girls hit aggressively in the first inning of the game,” said WLSalem head coach Kenleigh Farris. “Every girl in our hitting lineup had a hit tonight. It really was a team effort to push runs across.
“Overall, our defense and pitching were solid, which is what we wanted to improve on the most after Monday night’s game. The girls came in prepared and relaxed and the outcome shows that.”
