While not too common, guns have been brandished and used to threaten victims in local domestic violence cases over the years, Bellefontaine Examiner records show.
In at least three cases, guns were used to kill.

In 2008, Brandon Williams shot his mother with a 20-gauge shotgun and .22-caliber rifle before using the rifle to beat her at their Indian Lake area home. He is serving a life sentence and is currently lodged in the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
Memorial Day weekend 2005, authorities say all evidence indicates Scott Moody used a .22-caliber rifle to kill his grandparents, his mother and two overnight guests before turning the gun on himself. The slayings occurred at two homes on the family’s State Route 47 property west of Bellefontaine.
In 2004, Damon Mabry used a single-shot 12-gauge shotgun to kill the boyfriend of his wife inside their Lawrence Street apartment. She fled to a neighboring residence and the shooter took his own life on the porch as she watched.
Archived newspaper records since 2008, which may not have recorded every incident of domestic violence and guns, show seven incidents where the abuser threatened the victim with a gun.
A noted case came in 2003 when Scott Phillips, a former West Liberty police officer and Champaign County Sheriff’s dispatcher, held his wife at gunpoint during a standoff with the Bellefontaine Police Department.
