Theater-goers watching performances at the Holland Theatre won’t have to worry about trying to squeeze by a line of people ordering drinks anymore after the historic theater got a new full-service bar.
“We wanted a more appealing feel and people flow,” Managing Director Chris Westhoff said of the new bar that will be open for the Holland Theatre’s 85th birthday festivities this weekend.
The bar, which includes an actual bartop counter with a refrigerator unit, is located at the west entrance to the auditorium and replaces a makeshift table setup that was used to sell beer, wine and other beverages at the east entrance, which is also the main entrance to the auditorium.
“With the way the floor is raked and with the traffic in that entrance, it was a terrible place to try to sell beverages,” Mr. Westhoff said. “Last year, we got approved for a D5H liquor permit and they asked where our point of sale would be. This seemed like the logical place.”

It will be open for the theater’s 85th birthday celebration this weekend, featuring a 7:30 p.m. Saturday performance by the Voices of Ohio choir. (EXAMINER PHOTO | REUBEN MEES) |
