John E. Ward, 92, of Rushsylvania, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, in Green Hills Retirement Community, West Liberty.
He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in West Liberty, a son of the late Bunn and Lina Stayrook Ward. He also was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Allen Ward; a sister, Isador Shaw; a son-in-law, Edward Schrand; and a stepbrother.
He is survived by his children, Linda L. (Larry) Sparks of West Liberty, Dale L. (Mary) Ward of Bellefontaine, Gloria A. Schrand and Joni F. (Robert) Meister, both of West Liberty; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his loving friend, Barbara J. Ward of Rushsylvania.
John farmed most of his life and enjoyed tractor pulling. He was very fond of his Oliver tractors. He also enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing and square dancing. He attended as many sporting events as he could that involved his grandchildren. He was a former member of the Bellefontaine Eagles.
Pastor Bill Walker will officiate a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Huntsville Cemetery.
