The American Red Cross encourages the community to make an appointment to give blood during May and help save lives in honor of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
Each year, the local and global impact of the Red Cross mission is celebrated on May 8, the birthday of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement founder Henry Dunant.
Local blood drives include the following:
• 2 to 8 p.m. May 2, Belle Center United Methodist Church, 101 S. Center St.;
• Noon to 6 p.m. May 16, First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St.;
• Noon to 6 p.m. May 19, St. Patrick Church, 328 E. Patterson Ave.
Those who give blood in Central Ohio in May will receive a coupon from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for buy-one, get-one-free entry and can enter to win four tickets to Zoombezi Bay. Also, they can purchase discounted Cedar Fair theme park tickets, including Cedar Point, Kings Island and others.
Currently, donors of all blood types are needed to give and help save hospital patients’ lives. Every day, the Red Cross must collect approximately 14,000 blood donations to meet the needs of patients across the country.
