Amanda C. Garber, 40, at large, was arrested Saturday for felony possession of drugs.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol at 11 p.m. in the 1000 block of south Detroit Street observed her walking and then stopping to take a cellular phone photograph at an electrical power facility which seemed unusual to the officer.
He made contact with Garber and she explained she was taking photos of deer in a grassy area near the facility. She showed the photographs to the officer.
While she was close to the officer, he detected an odor of raw marijuana. He asked about possessing contraband and for her identification. When she opened her book bag to retrieve her identification, the odor was very strong, the officer reported, and he observed a black container with a marijuana leaf on it.
A further search of the bag located a film canister with two small plastic bags containing methamphetamine.
Garber was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. There, staff members found a bag with several hypodermic syringes and baggies with drug residue in Garber’s clothing.
• Madison P. Neubauer, 27, of Bellefontaine, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor drug offenses following a 2:55 a.m. traffic stop for no license plate illumination.
An officer on patrol spotted a northbound pickup truck without functioning license plate lights on Main near Chillicothe Avenue. The officer followed the pickup and initiated a stop in the 100 block of west Brown Avenue.
Upon identifying Neubauer, the officer ran a records and learned the driver was driving under suspension. She was taken into custody for driving under suspension.
A search of the vehicle found a small amount of processed marijuana product and a glass pipe commonly used for consuming methamphetamine. Three prescription pain reliever pills were found on her when she was searched at the jail.
She was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drugs.
Man faces cruelty charge
Jay A. Workman, 33, of 217 S. Evansville St., Apt. 1, was charged Sunday with cruelty to companion animals.
Another resident of the rental property reported the suspect was angry with his small dog as it would not potty fast enough. He reportedly yelled at the dog and it ran 10 feet before turning over on it back shaking. Workman allegedly picked the dog up and flung it.
It landed on its feet and ran to the residence with Workman running after it.
Surveillance footage supported the witness account.
Officers noted it was the second time in a week that officers were called regarding Workman’s ill treatment of the dog.
