William M. Wedel, 28, of 12284 State Route 287, Middleburg, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash on S.R. 287 Friday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado near County Road 158 about 8:50 p.m. when he traveled off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail. The vehicle’s front tire reportedly traveled on top of the guardrail, continuing eastbound. The pickup came to rest with its passenger side against the guardrail.
Deputies responded to the area on a report of a pickup that ran into a guardrail in front of a residence at 10966 S.R. 287. The caller advised that the driver was possibly intoxicated and was attempting to obtain a ride from the scene.
While en route, deputies learned that the driver, Wedel, was walking in the area and they located him along S.R. 287 near C.R. 158. Deputies observed that the defendant displayed signs of intoxication and he reportedly refused to participate in field sobriety tests.
Inside the defendant’s pickup, deputies located an open bottle of liquor. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he also refused to participate in a chemical breath test. Wedel also was cited for failure to control, driving with a temporary permit and no valid driver, and open container in motor vehicle. A records check showed he had a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated in Texas.
