Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department believe they apprehended a woman who was part of a duo that stole more than $2,000 in merchandise Monday from Walmart, 2281 S. Main St.
Courtney R. Parks, 27, of Springfield, was apprehended around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday after store security spotted in the facility. A male suspect with her fled the scene in a gray Chevrolet Traverse.
She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found a pipe used for abusing crack cocaine in her purse along with a pill that was sent for laboratory testing.
Officers asked her about Monday’s theft in which a male and female pushed carts ladened with clothing, electronic power equipment, electronics, boots and toys out of the lawn and garden area around 1:05 p.m. She declined to answer questions.
A member of store security told officers he recognized the suspects when he spotted them Wednesday and call police immediately.
The male suspect has been identified but he was not located Wednesday.
• Robert L. Castle, 58, of 513 E. Chillicothe Ave., was charged Thursday with theft.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department met with Marcia McCombs, also 513 E. Chillicothe Ave., at 4:30 p.m. and she reported the suspect had taken her mail, opened it and removed a men’s ring earlier in the day. When McCombs and her fiance confront Castle, he returned the ring.
Castle was located walking nearby and returned to the residence. He claimed he mistakenly thought the package was for him.
However, he was able to lead officers to a trash can where he disposed of the packaging and snuck away as officers were again interviewing the victim in an effort to determine if it was truly a mistake.
He was issued a summons.
