Washington Township Police Department Officer Logan Miller and K9 Hondo completed their Ohio Police Officer Training Academy and National Association of Professional Canine Handler’s certifications May 17 at Von Der Haus Gill German Shepherds in Wapakoneta.
K9 Hondo is a chocolate lab and was born Feb. 2, 2022, in Croatia at the Croation Kennel Club. Once K9 Hondo was selected by Von Der Haus Gill German Shepherds of Wapakoneta, he was chosen to be Washington Township Police Department’s next K9.
Officer Miller and K9 Hondo then completed six weeks of K9 Training.
As a result of the training, K9 Hondo became certified in narcotics (methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin), tracking, article searches and obedience.
K9 Hondo will be assigned to Officer Miller who primarily serves as the Indian Lake School Recourse Officer. During the summer months, K9 Hondo is assigned to road patrol.
One mission of the Washington Township Police Department is to rid Washington Township of any and all drug activity that exist.
“Having K9 Hondo on the department will help us accomplish that mission,” Police Chief Michael Thompson said. “We can’t thank the Washington Township Board of
Trustees and donors enough for supporting our K9 program. We welcome K9 Hondo and look forward to all of his future success.”
