Officers of the Sidney Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating a defendant who allegedly shot and injured an officer Wednesday evening during an attempt to serve him with a felony warrant.
Officers said Brandon Steele, 34, is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as 6 foot 2 inches tall and 185 pounds.
The suspect allegedly fired his weapon at Sgt. Tim Kennedy, who was struck by the gunfire. Sgt. Kennedy was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was reported to be in stable condition Thursday morning.
Sgt. Kennedy has served with the Sidney Police Department since 2007.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m., when officers reportedly attempted to serve the felony arrest warrant on Steele in the 700 block of Lynn Street.
As officers approached the residence, Steele fled on foot. Steele and a Sidney officer met toward the dead end of Ronan Street, where shots were fired. The suspect fled south again and was encountered in an alley off of Taft Street.
After firing his weapon at Sgt. Kennedy, Steele reportedly fled again on foot.
