The Big Orange girls dominated the local race, tallying 20 points and placing six runners in the top 10. Host Bellefontaine was second with 41 points, Indian Lake came in third with 92 points and Benjamin Logan was fourth with 93 points.
The Raider boys put five runners in the top nine to help fuel a 33-point performance. The Tigers were second with 42 points and the Chieftains were a close third with 49 points.
“I was happy with the patience my girls showed the first half of the race and that we could come away with the team title,” said WL-Salem girls head coach Ann Vogel. “The Logan County meet is a great event for the area running community and we’re thankful the Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club sponsors this meet each year. There are so many talented runners in the county and we knew our race would be competitive.”
“I was very pleased with our overall effort,” said BL boys head coach Kevin Butler. “We talked as a team about running as a pack and I think our guys did a very good job of working together. We know the school isn’t hanging banners up for winning this race, nor is it the ultimate goal for our season, but it was nice to get a win against two programs with such an incredible tradition. That’s what we’re trying to emulate and build.”
