The West Mansfield Lions Club representatives announced this week that due to concerns surrounding the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, the 2020 Lions Club Turkey Festival has been canceled for this November.
“This will be the first time in 70 years that there will be no Turkey Festival,” representatives said. “Plans are already being made for the 2021 Turkey Fest.”
The organization is still moving forward with the Lions Club calendar and members are currently contacting customers. Calendars are still $3.50 each. Birthdays, memorials, anniversaries and events are 50 cents per entry. There also is limited spaces for business ads.
Calendar orders continue through the end of this month, and will arrive before the end of the year.
The calendar project will be the only major fundraiser for the West Mansfield Lions Club this year. Representatives encouraged community members to consider supporting the effort, and to place orders by contacting calendar chair Mary Fogle-Kise at (937) 935-2531. Leave a voicemail if needed, or send her a text message.
In the past several months, the Lions Club gave out two $500 scholarships, supported community members with eyeglasses and eye health, the Lions Eye Fund, and the Pilot Dogs program. The West Mansfield club also donated $350 to Keith Warrick, who participated in an adaptive climbing event in Austria, $500 to community members with medical needs and contributed more than $1,000 to community members last Christmas.
The Lions Club supports the planting and maintenance of decorations and flowers in the town square.
