Contested race set for sheriff’s office
A levy supporting parks and recreation in the village of West Liberty highlights a list of issues and candidates set to appear on the March 17 primary election ballot.
West Liberty Council has filed a paperwork with the Logan County Board of Elections to request a five-year, 1.15 mills levy for the purpose of improving and maintaining local parks.
The Examiner reported Dec, 10 council’s intention to pursue the levy, that would raise about $30,000 per year for the purpose of completing parks and recreation-related improvements, including those at Dodge and Lions parks.
In the event the levy is passed, a local parks and recreation board of directors would be set up, council reported during a regular Dec.9 meeting.
Discussion to request an additional parks and recreation levy came about in part as a result of council’s ongoing discussions with the West Liberty Ball Association to install lights at ball fields in Dodge Park.
As for other issues proposed for the March primary, the village of Rushsylvania seeks to pass two five-year, 3-mills replacement levies for the purpose of current operating expenses.
There will be a contested race for Logan County Sheriff, as current Washington Township Police Chief Rick Core challenges incumbent sheriff Randy Dodds.
Other candidate petitions to appear on the March ballot include Republicans vying for Logan County offices: Kevin Braig, common pleas court judge; Barb McDonald, clerk of courts; Mark Robinson and Joseph Antram, county commission; Scott Coleman, engineer; Eric Stewart, prosecutor; Patricia Myers, recorder; Rhonda Stafford, treasurer; and Kim Kellogg-Martin, family court judge.
A number of candidates also seek election onto the Logan County Republican Central Committee, including: Antram, Ronald Baker, Melody Baker, Paul Benedetti, James Burkholder, Patricia Chamberlain, Charles Corwin, J. Scott Duff; Josef Freyhof, Linda Hanson, Earl Hildreth, Victor Klingelhofer, William Montgomery, Iris Raines, Jack Reser, Jamie Ross, Ryan Shoffstall, Steven Terrill, Howard Traul, Zeb Wagner, Susan Wish and Richard Zerkle.
