Versailles used a key third-quarter stretch to open up some breathing room and went on to beat visiting West Liberty-Salem 35-27 in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday.
The loss drops WL-Salem to 14-4 on the season, while Versailles moves to 12-7.
Versailles held a 9-3 lead to end the first quarter. WL-Salem went on a 12-8 run in the second quarter to cut its deficit to two (17-15) at halftime.
Versailles grabbed the momentum in the third quarter, using a 14-6 run to take a 10-point lead (31-21).
WL-Salem was unable to answer in the final period.
Emily Hollar paced the Tigers with 12 points, Grace Estes tallied seven points and Selena Weaver had five points.
In junior varsity play, Versailles bounced WL-Salem 39-16. Aubrey Laing led the Tigers with six points.
WL-Salem is back on the court Thursday at Northeastern for Ohio Heritage Conference play.
