David M. Lewis, 35, of 2499 Township Road 55, lot 12, Bellefontaine, was charged with a felony count of drug abuse, along with possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespassing, criminal damaging and resisting arrest related to an incident Thursday where he reportedly got his vehicle stuck in a yard on T.R. 55.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 8:25 a.m. to the area of 2497 T.R. 55 to speak with property owner David Rostorfer and tenant Tyler Craig regarding a vehicle that had gotten stuck in the backyard of the property.
Deputies observed the unoccupied car had its wheels sunken into the ground and large, deep ruts had been created by the tires. Tire tracks also were observed in the backyard of the property and in a nearby pasture.
Craig said he had observed several individuals by the vehicle and provided suspect description information to deputies.
The vehicle was owned by Lisa Taylor, who resides with Lewis. She informed deputies that Lewis had used her vehicle that day on an errand to get gas for a generator at the home.
Deputies went to the nearby Indian Hills Trailer Park where Lewis resides and spoke with him at his residence. He told deputies that when he was on his way back home, a truck was blocking the entrance to the trailer park, so he said he “tried to find an alternate route” and got stuck in the mud on Rostorfer’s property.
During a pat down search on his person, deputies observed that he was wearing two coats, and they recovered a plastic box containing multiple plastic baggies, along with the suspect plastic bezel to a hypodermic needle.
The defendant then allegedly led deputies on a short foot pursuit, despite Lewis having a limp and previously telling deputies that he had hurt his ankle. Once deputies caught up with him, they also found batteries in another one of his coat pockets, along with a baggie containing suspected crystal meth and a burnt straw.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. He also was cited for driving under suspension.
